BCBA: Working for Franchise Based Clinics VS Corporate Owned Clinics

by | Apr 2, 2026

Many of our BCBAs made the switch from Corporate ABA Giants.

Many BCBAs are treated like a cog in a wheel in the current industry, due to a huge system with poor management, overloading them with work, and gives barely any support. The majority of ABA therapy providers today are clinics that are run and owned by private equity firms – with only one focus and priority: profit. Many BCBAs working for clinics and companies like these are burdened with unrealistic caseloads and work day-in, day-out, till they’re desensitized towards clients. These Corporate ABA Giants don’t care about BCBA burnout.

Success On The Spectrum (SOS) operates completely differently. SOS was founded by a mother searching for the best care for her own child with autism. When Nichole Daher couldn’t find an ABA provider that met her standards, she decided to create one herself. She envisioned an environment that would nurture and support children with understanding – guiding them through where they are in life with care and intention. Her goal was to ensure each child was seen and supported as a whole person, not just during their ABA therapy sessions.

Founded by someone in need, who got down to it and established what quality care should look like.

With a unique beginning and identity as an organization, SOS has become the first autism treatment franchise in the US, expanding and growing rapidly. Unlike corporate conglomerates, each SOS clinic is individually owned by people who are passionate about serving children with autism and making a difference.

There are several SOS Franchise owners who themselves are either a BCBA or a parent of children with autism. Going to an ABA therapy provider owned and operated by a parent who seeks quality care for their own children with autism is vastly different then going to a medical treatment center who sees your child only as a patient. Over 25% of SOS franchisees are parents of children on the spectrum. They didn’t get into this business for capital gains — they joined to raise the standard of care.

Enough about my employers, what about me? What’s in it for me?

Why is working for a Success on the Spectrum location different and better for BCBAs?

Real Work-Life balance for the crew.

We care that you have time to yourself to have a life outside of work. Our clinics all operate on “banker” hours, many of them from 8 AM – 4 PM, Monday through Friday. Please do take time and care for yourself so you may come back to work refreshed with an adjusted mindset.

We support YOUR Growth.

Success on the Spectrum offers robust training programs, leadership tracks and clinical mentorship. We want to support your career growth – should you choose to do advance in more leadership positions or even own your own center!

Please only focus on what you do best!

Here at SOS, you’re expected to ONLY do what you do best: deliver life-changing therapy. Don’t touch the admin tasks, there are other staff to do that. No scheduling staff, no answering phones or chasing authorizations – none of that, we got you. You can focus on the child’s experience and therapy.

Culture. We care, we give, we embrace.

Success on the Spectrum clinics are widely known for their community outreach events. We care to push a philanthropic culture towards the community to provide families and their children opportunities to create life milestones and memories. Some of our past outreach events include autism proms, sensory-friendly festivals, and inclusive activities that promote socialization and belonging for kids on the spectrum.  It is very satisfying to belong to an organization who cares so much about the autism community.

Still unsure? Here’s the reality of our SOS operations and organization in the face of some myths.

MYTH #1: “Non-BCBA-owned clinics are profit-hungry and unethical.”

Reality: SOS was founded by a parent who desperately wanted better care for her child — not a hedge fund. Our franchise owners are trained, held to high clinical standards, and absolutely do not influence treatment plans. Quality of care is the #1 priority in every clinic.

MYTH #2: “Having a CEO without ABA experience leads to unrealistic demands.”

Reality: Our CEOs do not make clinical decisions. They handle the business side — things like payroll, HR, and billing. All clinical work is 100% managed by BCBAs. Plus, each clinic receives ongoing clinical support from SOS Franchising’s team of experienced BCBAs.

MYTH #3: “32 billable hours per week is too much.”

Reality: Yes, our BCBAs average 32 billable hours/week, but here’s the difference: you are only doing clinical work. No client intake paperwork. No scheduling. No phone calls. No distractions. Done-for-you onboarding training for new BTs. In-house BT certification training. Plus, you’re supported by competent Practicum Students / interns who help you maximize your time. The result? You’re able to deliver higher quality services without burning out.

MYTH #4: “I’m nervous about working for a small, local clinic.”

Reality: Each SOS franchise may be locally owned, but they’re backed by a national powerhouse. We provide every clinic with a full library of LMS training content, clinical protocols, SOPs, and live remote BCBA mentors for real-time support. You get the best of both worlds: the heart of a small business with the backbone of a big one.
